Practical Value and Delicious Taste

Frozen podded edamame brings a delightful nutty flavor and a satisfying crunch to baked goods, enhancing both taste and nutritional value. Its high protein content makes it an excellent ingredient for those looking to boost the health benefits of their baked treats. Additionally, edamame's mild taste allows it to blend seamlessly with a variety of flavors, from savory herbs to sharp cheeses.

Preparing Frozen Edamame

Ingredients:

1. 1 bag of frozen edamame bean

2. Salt (optional)

3. Water

Instructions:

1. Boiling Method:

Boil Water: Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add a pinch of salt if desired.

Cook Edamame: Add the frozen edamame beans to the boiling water. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the pods are tender and the beans inside are bright green.

Drain: Drain the edamame in a colander and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process.

2. Steaming Method:

Prepare Steamer: Fill the bottom of a steamer pot with water and bring it to a boil.

Steam Edamame: Place the frozen edamame in the steamer basket and cover. Steam for about 5-7 minutes until tender.

Cool: Remove the edamame from the steamer and allow it to cool.

3. Microwave Method:

Microwave: Place the frozen edamame in a microwave-safe bowl. Add a tablespoon of water and cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap with a small vent.

Cook Microwave on high for 3-4 minutes. Check for doneness and cook in additional 30-second intervals if needed.

Drain: Drain any excess water and let the edamame cool.

Incorporating Edamame into Baking

Once the edamame is cooked and cooled, it can be used in various baked goods. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Edamame and Cheese Muffins:

Ingredients: Cooked edamame (shelled), shredded cheese, flour, baking powder, eggs, milk, and butter.

Instructions: Mix the dry ingredients in one bowl and the wet ingredients in another. Combine the two mixtures and fold in the cooked edamame and cheese. Spoon the batter into muffin tins and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

2. Edamame Bread:

Ingredients: Cooked edamame (shelled), bread flour, yeast, sugar, salt, water, and olive oil.

Instructions: Prepare the dough by mixing flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add water and olive oil, kneading until smooth. Fold in the cooked edamame. Let the dough rise, then shape it into a loaf and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes.

3. Savory Edamame Scones:

Ingredients: Cooked edamame (shelled), flour, baking powder, salt, butter, milk, and your choice of herbs.

Instructions: Mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk and herbs, then fold in the edamame. Shape the dough into scones and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes.

Incorporating edamame into your baking not only adds an unexpected twist to traditional recipes but also elevates the overall dish, making it a favorite among health-conscious bakers. Whether you're making muffins, bread, or scones, edamame's versatility and delicious taste are sure to impress.
